LATEST NEWS

August 18 2008
Great news! Ku-ring-gai Council has resolved to undertake the work needed to get Marian St Theatre open for performances once more. We would like to thank all of our patrons for their support, whether by writing to Council or attending Snow White at the Lighthouse Theatre(which was a sellout!). We are now looking forward to getting back into our home. At this point we are not sure of the timeline. We are of course hopeful we will be back for our January show, Peter Pan, but time will tell. We have decided not to do a show in October primarily because we could not find a suitable venue, but we are very much looking forward to Peter Pan and hope you are too!

Of course, our holiday workshops will be running in September/October.

April 11 2008
As most of you are probably aware, Marian Street Theatre has been in the news recently!

You may have heard of the discovery by Ku-ring-gai Council that Marian Street Theatre does not have the required POPE (Place of Public Entertainment) licence, resulting in the closure of MSTYP's last production The Emperor's New Clothes & The Ugly Duckling earlier than expected.

It may be some time before we can again mount productions in our home at Marian Street Theatre, but that's not stopping us - the show must go on!

So - after an extensive search, we have found a venue for our next production Snow White - BUT it will have a reduced season of ONE WEEK ONLY in the July school holidays, playing from Monday 14 to Saturday 19 July at the Lighthouse Theatre, Macquarie University. For details on The Lighthouse Theatre, and to view a map click here.

March 7 2008
The remainder of the the season of The Emperor's New Clothes & The Ugly Duckling has regretably been cancelled. Refunds, if not already received, are being processed. We apologise to all of our loyal patrons for the inconvenience and disappointment, and we are heartened by the support and understanding shown to us thus far. Ku-ring-gai Council and MSTYP are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

What has happened? - It has been discovered that a regulatory issue with the venue exists, and required the immediate suspension of all public performances in the venue until the issue is resolved. We would like to stress that the building can still be used for drama school and administrative purposes.

What's happening with Snow White? - The cast start rehearsing on March 16 and it's all systems go. The show will take place in another venue (being finalised) and so the season has been reduced to one week of the school holiday run. See below for dates. Of course, the venue will be announced as soon as it is finalised.

COMING SOON...

Peter Pan

adapted by David Koumans
directed by Rebecca Jones

The director of our highly successful season of Snow White returns to present Peter Pan.

"All you need is faith and trust... and a little bit of pixie dust!" -- Peter Pan

Marian Street Theatre for Young People will bring the fantastic world of PETER PAN or "the boy who never grew up" to life from January 8, 2009. This all-time favourite tale was first performed in London in 1904.

The story begins in the nursery of the Darling house. The children are getting ready for bed when Peter Pan and Tinkerbell appear at the window and set about teaching the three Darling children how to fly. Peter talks Wendy and her brothers into coming with him to Neverland where he lives with the Lost Boys, and where he is forever being pursued by Captain Hook, a pirate, who lives in fear of a ticking crocodile. One day while Peter is away, Wendy and the Lost Boys are captured by Captain Hook and his band of bumbling cut-throat pirates. Peter flies to the rescue and saves them from the walk on the plank. He then takes Wendy, her brothers and the Lost Boys home…Peter disappears into the night sky

At this point we are not sure of the venue. We are hopeful of being back at Marian St, but if work is not completed we will be at the Lighthouse Theatre at Macquarie University. Stay tuned!
